Heavy Water Experiments: Rebecca, Rick, David, Roberto
Heavy Water Experiments passionately resists the tendency of modern bands to simply revive sounds of bygone eras, preferring instead to perfect their own awesome new-century psychedelia. The band is gaining some worldwide indie recognition, for instance Germany’s Heavy Magazine goes so far as to say their self titled cd is “A declaration of war against the uninspired…”

Indeed, the bottom heavy grooves and mesmerizing melodies the Heavy Water Experiments pump out are the result of some powerhouse musicianship combined with roof-rattling riffs and thoughtful arrangement. Roberto’s hard-hitting yet nimble percussion, the twin-bass sound roaring and rumbling from David and Rick, and an understated overlay of stunningly appropriate Fender Rhodes keys create a soundscape vaguely familiar yet unlike any other. David and Rebecca deliver vocals up front ranging from tightly focused near-pop songs to full on middle-eastern flavored freakouts. I still get a gut-wrenching rush everytime I hear Mirror The Sky, whereas the keyboard line in Mainliner is enuff to drift off on let alone the dreamy lead vocal. Live the ensemble can swell up to six people creating music that relies on chops and originality instead of resorting to effects, gimmicks and retro posing.
