One of the most wild and wacky events came back to DTLA this past Saturday afternoon, none other than the Red Bull Soapbox Race! This race was the perfect event for people of all ages and interests, with cars taking inspiration from the Lakers to Justin Bieber or should I say Beaver… if you weren’t into the downhill derby, or cringe worthy crashes then the creativity behind each vehicle was sure to get your attention.
As the streets filled with people, I found myself surrounded by over a hundred thousand people cheering or booing each derby car. While I enjoyed myself it was pretty disappointing to realize that there wasn’t any free Red Bull to gulp down with the overpriced food booths at this event. The food at the event seemed over priced, but I guess I shouldn’t be shocked. $6 for an order of fries just wasn’t going to happen.
It wouldn’t be a soapbox race without tons of excitement and the fear factor, throughout the races fans voted for their favorite team while a panel of judges ranked teams from 1 to 10. While the LA Lakers may not have won the championship this year, the Lakers Fanwagon took it home in this race. The final race results are now available. If you weren’t at this event, be sure to check it out next time it rolls around LA.
